Traffic Generation – Your 404 Error Pages
Here is part eleven in a series about how to drive traffic to your site. In this eleventh part, let’s look at using your 404 error pages. As you know, many times when you come across a webpage that has moved or is no longer available, you will receive a 404 Error Page. But, did you know that with most hosts, you can control what the user sees when they come to a 404 page? Many webmasters do not make use of these wonderful pages. Yes, I said wonderful because it gives you another chance at saving that traffic from going elsewhere. If you are using a host that offers cPanel, you can easily create customizable 404 pages that are just like any other webpage on your site. You can either use the page to try and sell something, give them links back to your main site, or just automatically redirect them anywhere you wish them to go. If your host does not use cPanel, try emailing them to see how you can create a custom 404 page. It is just plain crazy to not get the most of your 404 traffic. It takes practically no time to set one up and it could result in a few more sales each month people to add to your list. Best wishes and continued success!
